Misquoting Lewis

Spotted in the new Books & Culture: an ad for “the first volume in a collection of contemporary fiction that combines the artistry of critically acclaimed writers with a clear Christian worldview.” The ad features a quote by C. S. Lewis: “What we want is not more little books about Christianity, but more little books by Christians on other subjects with their Christianity latent”; in other words, excellent writing identified as Christian by its accurate portrayal of redemption in a fallen world rather than its overt label or preachy message.

The title advertised? The Best Christian Short Stories.

Never you mind, Mr. Lewis. Go back to your pipe and your dinner with Saint Paul. We’re still a little confused down here.
