Clippings 10: Book news

Still deep in the History Lives jungle (and will be for awhile!), but couldn’t resist reporting on some fun discoveries. For starters, Jhumpa Lahiri has a new story collection out: Unaccustomed Earth. Thank you to Ted for pointing me to this interview at BookForum. Last year I read (and briefly reviewed) her wonderful Interpreter of Maladies, for which she won the Pulitzer.

Khaled Hosseini has posted information on the upcoming film version of A Thousand Splendid Suns (book reviewed here), including the participation of Steve Zaillian, who wrote the screenplay for Schindler’s List. And note, in the same post, Hosseini’s endorsement of Lahiri’s new book, above.

I’m also excited that the paperback editions of Andree Seu’s essay collections are finally available at Amazon! Previously one could buy her titles only directly through World Magazine, and now that they’re out in pb I’m glad to see them get this wider exposure. Won’t Let You Go is available now; Normal Kingdom Business (with my foreword!) releases April 15. I’m sure you’ll want to pop over there and post some raving reviews.

And now I must get back to the last Christian samurai, bald and beautiful girl evangelists, and the wallpaper that transformed a nation…oh yeah, you won’t want to miss the last volume, people!
