My meme and me

Sherry at Semicolon, who hosts the ever popular Saturday Review of Books, tagged me for the Eight Things meme, by which we become better acquainted with our fellow bloggers through wild and wacky random details. This continues to be a heavy writing week for me—the kind when I usually grasp for any and every excuse to dodge what I am supposed to be working on—and I am determined this time to be good and see my schedule through. So, restraining myself, I say, “Thanks, Sherry! Good to blog with you!” and refer readers to my About page, where you shall be rewarded with not just Eight Things about me, but also Two Bonus Things to make up for my less than total participation this time around. Consider yourselves all tagged.

So, yes, this is a solid week of History Lives 5 drafting. I’m only a little behind schedule, so better than usual! In another week or so, we need to have settled on which character to feature on the cover so the artist can get to work. And we’re toying with possible titles now.

I’m also trying to keep up with my Festival reading schedule; since my last update, I’ve read Strout’s Abide With Me and Tippett’s Speaking of Faith (reviews to come…eventually). It’s starting to look like I won’t get to the poetry books in time—I was surprised to discover that our normally pretty good main library has none of them, nor do the local bookstores. If I have to go the Amazon route, I doubt I will get them in time. So perhaps I will just look for copies at the Festival itself. We’ll see. And now that it’s just 2 weeks away, Brandon and I are really getting excited. We signed up for their new “Festival Circles,” in which participants with similar interests get together in small groups twice during the conference to discuss what they’re learning. I’m in the “Fiction: Characterization” circle, and Brandon is in the “Creative Non-Fiction” circle. It will be fun to compare notes.

And now I have indeed diverted myself from today’s writing schedule and must remedy that post haste. Leave your reading updates in the comments, and let me know if you take the meme challenge!
