The LA Times reports
that this year’s Newbery and Caldecott winners were announced this morning at the final day of the American Library Association’s annual meeting.  The Newbery Medal went to Clare Vanderpool’s Moon Over Manifest; the Caledecott Medal (for illustration) went to A Sick Day for Amos McGee illustrated by Erin E Stead and written by Philip C Stead.

As a YA author, I tend to keep up with these awards and try to read each year’s winners.  This year, I hadn’t heard of either of these books until the winners were announced.  I logged into my library portal to request a copy of Moon Over Manifest, and I’m already fourteenth in line!  Which is great, because it means my community knows a good book when it sees one.  I’m looking forward to reading this and deciding if it belongs in the must-read stack I keep for my nieces and nephews.
