Best books of 2006

It’s that time of year when all the critics proclaim the best books of the year.  See The New York Times, Publisher’s Weekly, Washington Post Book World, American Library Association, and Books & Culture, for starters. Unfortunately for me, I’ve read few 2006 books this year—still catching up on the good ones from the previous year!  But a number of those that got the nod from critics are on my pile for the next couple months.

If you had the corner office in the editorial wing, what would your list include?  Name your favorite 2006 fiction, non-fiction, youth—any categories that interest you.
