Sick of being sick

Thanks, Joel, for the get-well wishes in your last comment. Yes, I seem to have a bug that I just can’t kick; yesterday started round 3 of antibiotics and steroids and I’m hopeful that will take care of it. Lots to do in these days of holiday prep and packing for a cross-country move, and frustrating to spend so much time in bed.

But finally receiving copies of Courage and Conviction in the mail did make for some encouragement. This book is a bit longer than the first two, due to a few extra background features necessary to setting up stories on two continents over two centuries of political upheaval. It is definitely rewarding to see all three volumes on the shelf together; a real series. I hope everyone is watching Westminster Bookstore to order book 3 as soon as they have it in stock!

I haven’t had the mental clarity to do much book reading, but I have done some catching-up with blogs and journals. Semicolon has a funny post quoting authors on other authors. I knew I had more than a few things in common with Twain! Also, the most recent issue of Books & Culture has a smart review by Peggy Rosenthal (read online with a subscription) on Lorrie Goldensohn’s two anthologies American War Poetry and Dismantling Glory: Twentieth-Century Soldier Poetry.

Back to bed for me. Must rest up so I can get back to finishing Personal History and A Separate Peace, both languishing at my bedside…
