If I had to sum up Yann Martel’s new novel in one word, it would be “grim,” which is not to deter readers but to prepare them. In scope, if not in length, Beatrice and Virgil rivals Martel’s previous novel, Life of Pi, with its necessary and answerless questions and its cast of bizarre characters.

Congratulations on the new blog home, Min. I like the review index. It gives your blog the kind of organization that you really couldn’t have with blogger.

Mindy, I LOVE your new site. The design is very clean and attractive and user-friendly. I especially think the searchable “reviews a-z” section adds a great deal…and it really demonstrates how much you’ve read and written in the last year! I’m changing my bookmarks…
