Finding Grace in Fiction

mod-ref-july-07-issue.jpgI have the privilege of being a guest columnist in the current issue of Modern Reformation magazine. “Finding Grace in Fiction” is my contribution to the July/August Common Grace department, which focuses each issue on “God’s truth in art and culture.” My piece is something of an apologetic for reading and writing fiction as an exercise in the cooperative human reflection of the divine image. With a (very!) brief discussion of each book, I pull out a handful of theological truths expressed in works by Alan Paton, Khaled Hosseini, Chaim Potok, Peter Hobbs, Richards Powers, and Yann Martel.

My thoughts on these books have in part been shaped by discussions with all of you on this blog, so you might want to check out the article. It is not available online, but you may find it in your library, and I will try to get permission to post it here when the next issue comes out. Please feel welcome to leave your feedback in a comment!
