A couple of you have mentioned that you haven’t read all of the books on my list of “some all-time favorites†(in the right-hand column), so I thought it might be fun to initiate an online discussion of one of them. For anyone who’s interested in participating, here’s your heads-up: on Tuesday, December 27, I’m going to post a few questions to start a comment thread on Too Late the Phalarope by Alan Paton. This is a relatively short but amazing novel of shame and forgiveness in South Africa during the apartheid era. I hope you’ll consider reading it and then checking back on the 27th to post your responses.
