Susan has given me another reason to love Virginia, and Williamsburg in particular. I envy her students because her teaching skill shines through loud and clear in her writing, and her sense of humor keeps things interesting. The 'History of the World' is the best book on the ancient world I have ever read and I thank her. Susan has replaced Gore Vidal as my favorite author and I am looking forward to reading her other writings and future efforts.

[...] However, in honor of Publication Day, I’ll post a new link to online chapters of the History of the Ancient World (also linked in the right-hand sidebar). You can read a new interview with me here. The Barnes & Noble online editors have posted a kind review here. And I’ve just discovered that I have a Library Thing page here.
Always a pleasure to read about what SWB is up to. I knew about her from my home-schooling sister long before I even thought about going to WTS. In my time here, I've become a true fan. Thanks, Mindy.

[...] Author, literary blogger, and friend Mindy Withrow has posted an exclusive interview with Susan Wise Bauer in conjunction with the imminent release of her much-anticipated book The History of the Ancient World: From the Earliest Accounts to the Fall of Rome. My readers will remember Ms. Bauer from her Books & Culture review of John Stackhouse’s Finally Feminist. The interview is an intriguing glimpse into what it’s like to set out to write a history of the world. Hint: it’s more work than all my final exam essays put together! [...]
